RESPOND LONDON

Emergency Preparedness Program

Many Londoners may not realize  that we are blessed to have one of the most up-to-date and extensive emergency response teams in all of Canada.  Over this past year CCNL has been meeting with the London Emergency Management team led by Henry Klausnitzer. This team is based in the Emergency Operations and Training Centre at Fire Hall #12 in Bryon. It is an impressive facility that becomes the hub of activity during any local emergency. Churches are strategically located in communities throughout the city and often have Ideal facilities to become the local community’s headquarters for disaster response. Things like parking lots where people can assemble and emergency teams can disseminate information and direction. Buildings where people can find refuge, washroom facilities and even makeshift food distribution. At CCNL we would love to see a network of churches throughout our city so that in the event of a calamity the city Emergency Management team could designate specific churches as meeting places. This would be an incredible testimony to the community and would facilitate many opportunities for ministry.

Our first step is to create a CCNL Emergency Database of churches and ministry centres throughout our city that would act as emergency hubs in their communities.  Once we have compiled the list, we will then call together leaders from these churches to meet at the Emergency Management Centre for training and coordination so that when an emergency hits, the city emergency management team knows exactly what churches to contact and where to send people who are impacted by the emergency.
